Privacy Policy - QR Smart Scanner
Last updated: April 30, 2026
The QR Smart Scanner mobile application is developed and owned by Loop Europe Ltd and marketed under our software development brand L.E.Apps (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with the app.
For questions about this policy, use the contact details found within this document.
1. Who we are
Loop Europe Ltd is the data controller for personal data we process when you use QR Smart Scanner and when you contact us directly.
Privacy contact: L.E.Apps@loopeurope.com
2. Our approach: minimal data
We design the app to collect and process as little information as possible. We do not operate user accounts inside the app, we do not sell personal data, and we do not integrate third-party analytics or behavioural-tracking SDKs for advertising or marketing measurement in the app. Some information is still processed on your device, by Google when you use Google Play Billing, Google Play in-app updates, or on-device ML services, or by us only if you email us. We describe each case below.
3. Information the app processes
3.1 Data stored only on your device
The app stores content and settings locally on your device, for example:
- Scan history and similar lists of codes you have scanned (where you use those features)
- Saved items, stock take sessions, and related data you choose to keep in the app
- QR code drafts or created images you save within the app (for example My QR Codes or exported images)
- App settings and preferences (including appearance such as theme, language-related preferences, and scanner-related options such as camera power-saving and repeat-delay).
This on-device data is used only to run the app. We do not receive this data on our own servers in the ordinary operation of the app.
Scanned and decoded content (for example text, URLs, or product codes) is processed to show you results and features you choose. Unless you send us that content yourself (for example in a support email), we do not collect it on our systems.
Depending on your device and system settings, Android backup or device transfer features may copy some app data to your Google account or another backup destination. That processing is governed by your device settings and Google’s (or your device manufacturer’s) policies, not by servers we operate.
3.2 Camera and images
To scan codes with the camera, the app uses device camera input. Video frames are used on the device to detect and decode barcodes and QR codes. We do not operate a service that uploads your camera feed to our servers for scanning in normal use.
When you use read from image, you may pick an existing photo through the system photo picker (or equivalent). The app uses the selected image on the device to try to read a code. We do not require broad access to your entire photo library for core flows as described in the store listing and runtime permission behaviour.
3.3 Contacts (optional)
If you use a feature that imports contact details (for example to help build a contact-style QR code), the app may request access to contacts you approve. Only the contact information needed for that feature is read on the device. We do not use contacts for advertising, and we do not upload your address book to our servers in the ordinary operation of the app.
You can deny this permission and still use other parts of the app that do not depend on it.
3.4 Machine learning and Google on-device processing
Barcode scanning may use Google ML Kit Barcode Scanning, which runs on the device as part of the app’s scanning pipeline. Google may process data in line with its policies and the way ML Kit operates on Android. For more information, see Google’s privacy documentation and policies (for example [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy)).
3.5 Purchases (Google Play Billing)
When you buy optional items (for example to support development or remove ads, where offered), Google Play processes the transaction. We do not receive your full payment card details. We may receive limited purchase-related information through Google’s billing APIs (for example whether a purchase is active) so we can unlock features in the app.
Google’s handling of data related to payments and your Google account is described in Google’s Privacy Policy: [https://policies.google.com/privacy](https://policies.google.com/privacy)
3.6 App updates (Google Play)
When you use in-app updates offered through Google Play, Google may process information needed to deliver updates in line with Google’s policies.
3.7 Opening links and system share
When you open a link from scan results, Android may open your browser or an in-app browser experience provided by the system or AndroidX / Chrome Custom Tabs (depending on version and configuration). Opening links is subject to your browser’s or the relevant provider’s privacy policy.
When you share or save an image (for example a generated QR or barcode image), the Android share sheet or storage APIs may be used. Recipients or apps you choose (email, messaging, cloud storage, print, etc.) are outside our control.
3.8 Support and legal requests
If you contact us by email, we process the information you send (for example your email address and the content of your message) only to respond to you and to meet our legal obligations where applicable.
We do not use support correspondence for advertising or resale.
4. What we do not do
We do not:
- Require registration or an in-app account on our systems
- Use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app as part of tracking you across apps for ads (see section 2)
- Build advertising profiles about you from app usage on our servers
- Sell personal or sensitive user data.
5. How we use information
We use information only to:
- Provide and maintain app functionality (including on-device storage of your scans, saved items, settings, and similar data you create)
- Decode codes using on-device processing, including vendor components such as ML Kit where applicable
- Validate and deliver in-app purchases through Google Play
- Reply to your support or privacy inquiries
- Comply with applicable law and protect our legitimate interests (for example security and fraud prevention), where permitted.
6. Sharing of information
We do not share personal data with data brokers. We share information only as needed with:
- Google (and its affiliates as applicable), when you use Google Play, Play Billing, Play in-app updates, ML Kit, or related Android services, subject to Google’s policies and your device settings
- Other apps or services you explicitly invoke (for example when you share content to another app, open a link in a browser, or save a file to a location you choose)
- Professional advisers or authorities where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
7. Security
We protect information under our control with appropriate technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the processing. Purchase-related communication with Google uses industry-standard secure connections where applicable.
Information you keep in the app remains largely under your control on the device. You should protect device access (screen lock, etc.) to reduce risk if your device is lost or shared.
Important: Scanned codes may point to websites, Wi‑Fi networks, or other actions that can affect your device or data. The app shows what was decoded; it does not guarantee that a link or code is safe. Use judgment before opening links or connecting to networks.
8. Retention and deletion
- On-device data: Remains until you remove it by clearing the app’s storage, uninstalling the app, or using in-app controls where available for specific data. We do not need to delete this data from our servers for routine use because we do not routinely host it there.
- Emails to support: Kept only as long as needed to handle your request and for legitimate business or legal retention (for example short-term records of abuse or billing disputes, where relevant), then deleted or anonymized where appropriate.
- Google / Play: Retention of purchase and account records is governed by Google; see Google’s help and privacy materials. Because the app does not offer an in-app user account on our systems, there is no separate “delete my account” flow for an app-specific account hosted by us. Deletion of on-device data is managed as above.
9. Permissions and system access
Android may request runtime permissions so the app can provide features. The app requests access only for the purposes below. Exact permission names may vary slightly by Android version.
| Access area | Typical Android permission / mechanism | Purpose | |-|-||
| Camera | `CAMERA` | Live scanning of QR codes and barcodes. |
| Contacts | `READ_CONTACTS` | Optional: reading a contact you choose when a feature builds contact-related content (for example a vCard QR). Not required for all features. |
| Vibration | `VIBRATE` | Short feedback where the OS and feature support it (for example scan feedback). |
| Photos / images | System photo picker (and related APIs) | Choosing an image that may contain a code (“read from image”). The app does not use this to browse your library beyond the image you select, consistent with modern Android APIs. |
| Network | Network access (where used) | Essential operations such as Play Billing, in-app updates, and opening content online when you choose to open a link or similar—not for uploading your scan history to us in ordinary operation. |
We use permissions only to deliver the related functionality and not to sell data or run cross-app tracking for advertising. If the system shows a permission prompt, it is for the purpose described in that prompt and our in-app context.
Google Play “Data safety” and similar disclosures: You should ensure the information you provide in the Play Console (data types, purposes, sharing) matches how the app actually behaves in the version users download. This policy is designed to align with a minimal-data, on-device-first model; update both when you change features or SDKs.
10. Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children in the sense of collecting contact or profile information from them for our own online services. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction) via the app’s operation. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
11. International users
If you use the app from outside the country where Loop Europe Ltd is established, your information may be processed in accordance with this policy and applicable law, including when you use Google services that may process data in multiple regions.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version (for example on our website or linked from the store listing) and change the Last updated date. If changes are material, we will use reasonable means to bring them to your attention where appropriate (for example an in-app notice or store listing update).
